2018, Spring Admission Information Session for Graduate School of Knowledge Service Engineering

In Early 2016, the World Economic Forum met in Davos, Switzerland to introduce the term Fourth Industrial Revolution for the first time. The fourth industrial revolution, based on the foundations of the third industrial revolution and its information technology, aims to converge and to create new values from a number of different industries. The key to the fourth industrial revolution lies in the hyper connectivity between humans with objects and objects with objects alongside the hyper intellect derived from this hyper connection. Ultimately allowing to predict human behavior and further creating intellectual value. The technological trend shown in the 2017’s Consumer Electronics Show(CES), including artificial intelligence and internet of things(IoT), also support the emerging Fourth Industrial Revolution and the market’s attention to it.

In order to adapt to the fourth industrial revolution, there is an imminent need to develop a deep understanding of the technology and a careful consideration of how to process and how to develop these technologies. Research areas such as Knoweldge Systems, data science and HCI are key areas in which enables one to succeed in the fourth industrial revolution and are a part of the graduate school of Knowledge Service Engineering at KAIST’s goal to develop your career in this technology driven society.

Several researches are being conducted in the field of Knowledge Systems research in order to optimize the human decision making process and to provide useful information for the decision making, including: An experiential knowledge platform: self-teaching intelligent systems with experiential knowledge, Collaborative Knowledge Integration model: hypothesis generation using graph structure and search engine.

Also in the Data Science research, a number of projects are being conducted to design and to support service using data mining : Smart cloudlet technology: a mobile big data processing platform, Trajectory social pattern research : a big data solution with a distributed processing algorithm.

In the field of HCI, we challenge the concepts of user experience and interface design through several projects including : Context recognition for smartphone interruption : A research to understand the context of interruptability with mobile smartphones, Experiential Knowledge interaction for knowledge convergence : a cognitive engineering research to minimize a user’s cognitive load.

Since the start of the department at 2009, the graduate school of Knowledge Service Engineering has been noticed by both academia and industry for our research on topics such as big data, IoT and artificial intelligence, which are closely related to the fourth industrial revolution.

The graduate school of Knowledge Service Engineering is recruiting prospective members to research alongside. We are hosting an admission information session on May 29th where further information regarding the school and research area will be provided. Current masters and PhD students are also planning to attend to further answer your questions about both research and school life. We welcome you to attend the session and enjoy the refreshments while collecting information about us.

You can also access the graduate school’s website ( http://kse.kaist.ac.kr ) for further information and please feel free to contact any of the students below for specific questions regarding research labs or research topics! We await your participation!

Thank you!
